Fantastico!

EL MAC / SAIGON / VIETNAM / EL MAC + TERNA / LOS ANGELES

Bravo!

El Mac painted this beautiful mural in front of Sàn Art, an independent artist space, and just outside the offices of The Propeller Group in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam. It is based on a photo of Kosoom, the grandmother of El Mac's girlfriend. Bravo!

All of the photographs included in this video as well as the footage of motorbikes zooming through the city were taken by El Mac. We wanted this video piece to be a reflection of how El Mac saw the world of Viet Nam for the first time, taking it all in, and juxtaposing the fast paced life in the city with this giant portrait that would literally slow people down in admiration as they passed by.

EL MAC + RETNA / Los Angeles

Wherever they go, they try to make something that makes sense for the neighborhood, and the community. And they always make something positive, something the artists hope people can enjoy -- regardless of whether life has greeted them with great fortune. Armed with a vision and their cans of spray paint, El Mac and Retna will transform a forgotten wall into a piece of art.

El Mac and Retna are street artists, born in LA. They use building walls as blank canvases for their imagery, and the duo has collaborated to create murals all over the world. El Mac and Renta have very different styles, and have been collaborating the last few years. They combine their artistic forces in a specific way: El Mac creates huge lifelike portraits and Retna, calligraphic brushwork and decoration. The result is striking imagery that is unique and recognizable as theirs. It's not uncommon for street art fans and documentarians to gather to watch the progression of an El Mac and Retna work in progress.

El Mac and Retna art feels appropriate for the street because the artists themselves embrace the city streets, the different neighborhoods, and the blend of cultures and backgrounds of the people that fill them. Street art, including the work of El Mac and Retna, also reflects a new attitude about accessibility to art in our environments. "Why not see all the walls painted," says Retna. "Let the Arts Roam!"

AVETE MAI AVUTO LA SENSAZIONE DI ESSERE STATI INGANNATI?

Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?

EVER GET THE FEELING YOU'VE BEEN CHEATED?

The final Pistols gig on 14th January 1978 in San Francisco ended with a disillusioned Rotten walking out on the band. After an encore of The Stooges song No Fun, the singer sneered at the audience, exclaiming, "This is no fun at all", before asking the crowd: "Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?". He then threw his mic down and walked off stage. Three days later, he'd officially quit The Pistols.

RENÉ AND GEORGETTE MAGRITTE WITH THEIR DOG AFTER THE WAR

A beautiful song about the surrealist and dadaist artist René Magritte and his wife Georgette. The title derives from a World War II-era photograph by Lothar Wolleh of the Magrittes in Belgium under German occupation. From the poetic genius of Paul Simon.

THE "EVERYTHING IS A REMIX" SERIE

Remixing is a folk art but the techniques involved - collecting material, combining it, transforming it - are the same ones used at any level of creation. You could even say that everything is a remix.

An exploration of the remix techniques involved in producing films. Part Two of a four-part series.

Creativity isn’t magic. Part three of this four-part series explores how innovations truly happen.

Our system of law doesn't acknowledge the derivative nature of creativity. Instead, ideas are regarded as property, as unique and original lots with distinct boundaries. But ideas aren't so tidy. They're layered, they’re interwoven, they're tangled. And when the system conflicts with the reality... the system starts to fail.

Scaricate gratis il remix qui e godetevelo. BJÖRK / JOGA / THE SASHARASKIN REMIX.

Download the remix for free here and enjoy it! BJÖRK / JOGA / THE SASHARASKIN REMIX.

Sasharaskin is a musician/artist, a Jerusalem-based multi-instrumentalist and composer who began writing music at the age of thirteen. His sound is described as electro-acoustic, a seamless blend of classical instruments and electronic noise. We knew him on the social networks, suggested by mutual friends, we appreciated his works, downloaded his songs, followed and so he did. A creative friendship was born, that spontaneously evolved in an idea of collaboration. His Björk /Jòga remix is beautiful and dreamy, more a "reinterpretation" than a remix (the original was included in the Homogenic album, 1997). Sasha created this remix and we created the accompanying artwork, a creative game inspirated by Björk herself that made available the "acappella" version of the song for a "remix competition".
All has been done with friendship and sharing spirit  and the track is available free for everybody and not for commercial purposes. This is the 2.0 new world!

VIDEORATIVE PORTRAITS / GENERATIVE VIDEO PAINTING / SERGIO ALBIAC

Videorative Portrait of Filmaker Randall Okita (read more here)

Fantastico!

Sergio Albiac, spanish artist from Barcelona, pushes the boundaries of the "generative art" painting a Queen Elizabeth II portrait using thousands of Youtube clips, like on a digital canvas. He defines it "generative video painting". Beyond collage. Fantastic!

Some precious words from the artist
“Content is Queen” is a video art series of generative portraits that reflects on the foundations of democracy and the resilient nature of structures of power. At the same time, it is a paradoxical dialogue and strange marriage between the banal and the utterly majestic: to create the series, the most popular (in a truly democratic sense) internet videos of a given moment are used as the input of a generative process that “paints” with action the portrait of the Queen.

On a technical level, this piece is a result of my research in breaking the limitations of the static image in a contemporary revision of the tradition of painting. The portraits are created using an innovative generative technique that I have developed called “generative video painting”. It differs from previous attempts of video collage (like the techniques developed by David Hockney, mixing simultaneous points of view of an action) or video mosaic (where still images are represented by whole videos acting as pixels when properly reduced in size). My technique uses regions of video content to effectively represent or “paint” heterogeneous regions of the image. Both the partial content of the videos and the whole image are fully visible at the same time, widening the possibilities to deliver meaning in a contemporary aesthetic language.

To better experience this piece as a painting, there is no sound. See it full screen to enjoy details.

The generative process is implemented using Processing (processing.org).
Many thanks to Andres Colubri (GSVideo library) and the whole Processing community.
