Francis Bacon ha incontrato per la prima volta Peter Beard, celebre fotografo americano e scrittore, al Clermont Club di Londra nel 1965. L'occasione fu il lancio del libro di Beard sulla distruzione della vita selvaggia africana, The End of the Game. Le immagini africane di Beard impressionarono Bacon che ammiro' particolarmente le sue foto aeree di elefanti morti. Diventarono amici e Bacon dipinse nove ritratti di Beard. Dal loro incontro nel 1965 i due svilupparono una profonda amicizia. Anche Peter Beard fotografò più volte il pittore. Peter Beard vive e lavora a New York.
Francis Bacon first met the American wildlife photographer and writer, Peter Beard at the Clermont Club in London in 1965. The occasion was the launch of Beard’s book on the destruction of wildlife in Africa, The End of the Game. Beard’s images of African wildlife impressed Bacon who particularly admired his aerial photographs of dead elephants. They became friends and Bacon painted nine major portraits of Beard. From their first meeting in 1965, Bacon and Beard appear to have developed a close friendship. Also Peter Beard took several portraits of the painter. Peter Beard lives and work on New York City.
